Hi Folks,

I have recently been finding a few machines on my network that I have not put on. They are joining with thier own workgroups and as such can get access to the network etc.

Is there any way to block access to the network via DHCP? ie, not providing IP & DNS addresses to PC's that are not in an authorised workgroup or domain?

Thanks,

Pete

addendum to previous post: The computers are accessing the network from inside. ie being brought in by employees.

We know who one of the users is and as such can reprimand the employee. But I don't want it to happen at all and prevention would be much better than cure.

Cheers,

Pete

This can be acomplished on the hardware level if you are using an "intelligent" switch. Access can be blocked by MAC address, only the proper MAC for that port will be allowed acess to the network.
