Anyone have any sugjestions on how to get a printer on a win NT pc to work from a network PC running win 2K. I've even tried to swap the printer and put it on the win 2K PC with the same results. Win98 will work with ether one, but no luck between win NT & win 2K.

It shouldn't matter one wit.

If you connected to the machine which had the printer installed before you loaded the software drivers for the printer on the workstation the workstation would, most often, download the drivers from the printer server to use. This may cause problems as it may be the wrong driver.

Reinstall the driver on the workstation using the original install disks. From there simply set the print port to the network share print server point.

File and Printer Sharing must be installed and bound to the network stacks of both computers for printing to work. I would not bother setting a access password for the printer on the printer server - as a matter of fact setting one can cause some problems.

Make sure the share mode on the server is set to read/write. Make sure that the spooler settings on the workstation match that of the server - the Spool Data Format being especially critical. Your mileage may vary...

Also check security settings on that WinNT box. If you are using a domain, you have to let domain users to print on that local WinNT-box-attached-printer. It's disabled by default, since only local-box-users have print permissions on local printers. An easy cut (but not all that clever in BIG environments) is to give Everyone Print-permission. Note that you can grant permissions to stand-alone NT's and W2K's from other stand-alones: User: [THEOTHERBOX\username].
