hi everyone!

i got this problem:

i'm using aix 4.1 and i successfully connected lexmark network printer....

the thing is i got this garbage from the top of every page every time i'm printing...usually i used the default parameters of each printer and its drivers, as well as aix default parameters.

is there anything else i should look at? i'm using lexmark optra t* network printer...

Look at emulating something else....
In 4.1 the following was the only Lexmark printers supported..
Lexmark 4039 plus LaserPrinter
+ 4.1.5.0 Lexmark 4079 Color Jetprinter Plus
+ 4.1.5.0 Lexmark ExecJet IIc
+ 4.1.5.0 Lexmark Optra C color laser printer
+ 4.1.5.0 Lexmark Optra E laser printer
+ 4.1.5.0 Lexmark Optra LaserPrinter
+ 4.1.5.0 Lexmark Optra N laser printer
+ 4.1.5.0 Lexmark Optra Plus laser printer
+ 4.1.5.0 Lexmark ValueWriter 600

Put perhaps you can find something esle it emulates...rather than generic.
What kind of garbage...every page? is there readible stuff after that?
what stream was set? PCL ? ARe you printing directly to the card or through
a print server...perhaps it is a setting on the server....

Lexmark MarkNet XLe Adapter 4033

When I print with lpr I get headers no matter how I set up the queues.
Unwanted header problems come from 2 places.
The /etc/qconfig queue device stanza says header = group or
header = always. The print command calls for it. lpr by default
issues a command that gets sent to 'enq' as '-c -Bgn file'.
This means that you will always get headers with lpr no matter
what is set in /etc/qconfig unless you use lpr -h filename -> '-c -Bnn file'.
enq, lp and qprt all default to NO flags. You can always
force no headers with 'enq -Bnn' or 'qprt -Bnn'. You can
also DESTROY the virtual printer header
capability by setting the 'sh' attribute to nothing: 'sh=[enter]'.

Are you using Samba or anything?

thanks aixqueen....

i got the solution, here's how:

1. downloaded the right network driver for the said printer.
* on lexmark CDROM, go to drivers, then aix directory - get file named LXMARK4X.TAR
* untar the file, then run the install_pkg program under that directory, then select appropriate printer driver/s.

2. configure it as a network printer, using hpJetDirect.

3. provided the required IP/HOST name address.

4. change default print attribute under "Job Processing Option - Print file TYPE from 'a' for ascii to 'p' for pass-through".
