I have two computers connect via router. One running W98se which ask me for a password when I try to look at second computers (running W2k server) files. Why is it asking me for a password and how do I get aroud this?

You could have an open share on the 2k PC, full control to the everyone group. This isn't a very secure route so you could setup an account on the 2k box map a drive and get the Win98 box to remember the password.

box map a drive and get the Win98 box to remember the password." How would one go about doing this? Thanks.

You would map the connection with the Persistent switch.

From a command prompt type net use /? to see proper context of the command.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, I'm going to say it again...

Get rid of your 98 machines. The recent WMF vulnerability should be sufficient to stress this point. This is a wide open way to compromise that system and Microsoft is NOT going to create a fix for 98. You will spend far more time and money trying to support that 8 year old OS than you would if you were to upgrade.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Mark

Create an account on the W2K box with the same credentials as the ones on the W98 box. Windows will automatically supply the credentials when you try to connect. If they match, you won't get the login box.
