I have a Windows 2000 professional that I am running as a file share server for 8 other Win 98se machines. I defraged my drive and now the other machines cannot access the files because I can't get passed the password. I have all of the users names listed on the Win 2000 users list. I have drive C selected to share but I still get the same message that the other users "do not have the permission to access the file sharing drive." Im at wits end. Any help would be appreciated.

Remove the share and re-establish it on the host and client machines. During the defrag, the share information may have been corrupted. I've had to redo the share on a drive myself a couple of times. Now, when doing anything "major" to the drive, I remove the share first and bring the system up in a non-shared environment. Seems to work, so far.

Well I tried removing the share and that didn't help. My problem is actually before I have the opportunity to even select the shared drive. At a user station on the network, whenever you select the computer where the file sharing drive is located --- at that point it tells me that I do not have permission. I don't even have a chance to browse for the file sharing drive.

Whenever I go to Network Neighborhood from a workstation (running win98) to try to connect to the filesharing HD on the Win2000 station it gives the following promt --

Resource: //Server/IPC$
Password:

Where do I set the password for this or how do I get around this?
