Depends what you're trying to monitor.
Netmon (that comes with the NT ResKit) is fine for most applications.

There is a free evaluation of SysTrack 2.0 located at I am sure there are other free demos out there are well. Beyond that, you know what you get when something is free. Good luck.

TCPView from is a great freebie that shows the start and end points of each TCP connection.
