network logon screen not appearing

I haven't come across this before.

I can ping all stations via IP and Name, i can access the internet through the gateway but i can't logon to the network. I also tried at another desk, changed the NIC and cables to see if something was going on there.

Has anyone come across this?

Have you done an ipconfig /all and made sure the card was getting an IP address from DHCP instead of grabbing a 169.254.x.x address?
