I have a PC, hooked up to the internet via DSL. Because of my lan connector is hooked up to the modem, I use my firewire port to hook it up to my laptop. I ran the network connection wizard on both machines. The problem is that sometimes I can't see the shared folders on both machines, then somedays I can't see the shared folders on one, but can see them on the other.
Any help is appreciated.

P.S. I know that having a router might help and not use the firewire connection, but would like to do this w/out buying one first

I guess that the laptop is disconnected some times .
And when you reconnect it to the fw against the desktop you have some trouble .

I would think that re enabling the connections on both ends when connected against each other would help.
( enable/disable in network connections , or in systray )

I would watch out that it does not try to place the firewire adapter in Bridge Mode on the desktop. What you really need to enable is ICS, with the firewire non-bridged.
