Hello, I am having extremely similar issues as Souless but none of the info in the replies seems to help.
I have offices that have a frame relay connection connected to a Cisco Router running DHCP. My customers bring in their own machines and connect them to my network and grab an IP address dynamically and normally work fine.
This past week, I have had several machines lose their IP address at random. No matter what I try I cannot get their IP address it stays at (169.254.etc.etc).
All of these machines are XP Pro 2 of them are brand new out of the box and can't grab an IP address, the other 2 were working fine and then over the past 3 weeks their machines have been randomly dropping their IP connection.
I've tried re-running the Network Setup Wizard, static IP addresses, reinstalling the NIC, changing CAT 5 cables, changing wall jacks, and nothing seems to be working.
I thought it might the DHCP portion on my router needing a reboot, but if that were the case, I would have been able to ping the router if I assigned a valid static IP address and SM.
I'm wondering if it is virus relate or not. I tried that WinsockFix tool and the Norton AV (if needed) and that didn't fix the problem either.
What other information do you need from me to help me figure this out. I know that MS has put out quite a few security patches in the past 3 weeks and I'm wondering if that might be an issue too.
Please Help?!
