I had to reinstall windows xp on my desktop...let's call this a bull in the china shop novice attempt. It's done, but the network connections folder is empty and it won't connect to the internet. Can someone assist me?

You likely need drivers for your network card wireless or wired. And Without knowing any thing about your computer its hard to tell which ones.

The first thing would be to go to the Manufacturers website for your PC and see if they have the Network card drivers for download. If they do you can download them and then install them on your re-installed computer.

Ignorance is not necessarily Bliss, case in point:
Unknown has caused an Unknown Error on Unknown and must be shutdown to prevent damage to Unknown.

Was it a clean install including a format of the hard drive, or was it a repair install where Windows repairs itself?

A lot of the missing drivers may be on the supplied additional CD's which originally accompanied the machine?
