Can anyone tell how to fix this problem.
I have w3k standard server setup and running dhcp. I have a few desktops that continually lose their network connections about every 4 hours after no activity on the desktops. Two of the desktops are XP pro and the other desktop is windows 98. I performed this step from a previous post on a few machines and it worked on some of them, "Take a look at the properties of your NICs. I'll bet that if you look under the Power Saving feature you will find that it is set ot allow XP to turn off the device. Uncheck that box and your computers should stay online." Like I mentioned above 2 Xp pro's are still doing it and 1 of the 98 machines are too. These Desktops reconnect everytime I restart or log off and log back on, but my client finds it to be a pain in the butt. Any suggestions on how to fix this would be helful.

Thanks

Wow that quote looks familiar right down to my typos!

OK, so your machines still disconnect even after checking that setting.

First thing I can suggest is to verify that the setting is still NOT checked. I have encountered a situation in the past where the NIC refused to release the setting.

Next thing to look at is how long do you have your DHCP leases set for? Are these machines hooked up to the network the same as all other machiens? Do they go through the same switch or hub?

Have you verified that the computers are actually loosing their IP address or is this a matter that the machines just can't access network resources anymore?

I hope you find this post helpful. Please let me know if it was.

Regards,

Mark
