Is there a way to overcome the Max limit of 10 connections to a Windows 2000 pro computer?

There is no way to raise the limit from the max of 10 users however, you can make the autodisconnect lower to free up connections faster. The default is 15 Minutes. So if someone is in Idle with a connection open the system will deisconnect automatically at 15 minutes. Lowering that can free them faster. Lowering the AutoDisconnect time can help to reduce some of the problems users may encounter with the 10-connection limit on a system that is not used heavily for server purposes. You can configure the AutoDisconnect time by running the following command from a command prompt:

net config server /autodisconnect:time_before_autodisconnect

Where :time_before_autodisconnect is the time you want for disconnect. I usually set My workstations to 5 minutes.
