Before I start, I'm an AIX / Solaris bod and new to HP-UX.

I have a HP9000 on site which was having problems with freezing logins.

I rebooted the server and now it seems the network card has been disabled.

I've tried (through sam & cmd line ifconfig) to re-enable the card, but have had no joy so far.

How do I re-enable the card?

are you 100% sure that the network card is fully operative? I mean, is it good? you said "...which was having problems with freezing logins." it sounds to me as a bad ethernet card.

SAM should enable it with no problems.

Cheers.

Well it was working until the reboot

but you said "...which was having problems with freezing logins."

it sounds to me that you have a bad card... try to replace it. As I said, SAM should have no problem to enable the card and I'm sure what you did is the correct procedure.

Cheers.

Try :
eg for lan0

ifconfig lan0 inet IPADDRESS netmask NETMASK up

Connect laptop with X-over cable to lan0, change laptop ip to one greater than server ip address, set netmask etc... then try ping, if it doesn't work, suspect your card is faulty.
