Recently we have had a small problem in the company. We have our file share server setup, and the employees access it for whatever, programs or personal stuff.

About the last 10-12 boxes I've built out have had an issue browsing the network. They can see it, and connect no issues there, but there is a severe delay when waiting for the file list to drop down.

I've read several things indicating is a bug with a .avi file association in the registry, which I tried, and did not resolve the issue.

I've also noticed that it's only on the last few boxes we build out. We're a fairly small company, and have about 80-100 computers. Only the last few dozen or so have started to have this problem, and someone right next to them who is running the same OS does not have the issue.

To help get a more accurate answer here are the details on the machines

Model(s): Optiplex 280/270, Precisions (all dell boxes)
OS: XP Pro SP2 and latest updates
AV: McAfee Epolicy
Anti-Spyware: Pest Patrol (network version)

I cannot isolate the cause of the slow down, gone from graphic settings to trying to manipulate the actual NIC itself, nothing has resolved it.

Appreciate the help in advance.

There could be a problem with the master browser on your network. Search these forums for that. I had a similar problem a few months back and it turned out that two of my domain controllers were fight over who was master brower. After I resolved the problem through the command line every thing sped up.

Good Luck,

Our server is Win 2k3

I reset the registry key as indicated, but it had no effect.
