I installed a network bridge on the 2 network adapters in my remote Server 2003. One adapter is a wireless LAN adapter through which the server connects to the Access Point (a wireless switch/router), to which the remainder of the network is connected (as well as the internet).
The other adapter in the server 2003, making part of the bridge, is an ordinary LAN adapter connected to a hub. The other connection to the hub is a Windows98SE workstation.
I have everything on fixed IP addresses, and the Server 2003 as DNS-server with forwarding. And all machines have the router's IP address as default gateway.
The server has a fast internet connection through the wireless link, but the W98 workstation is very slow. When pinging from W98 to the router, or vice versa, I get a mix of very fast (mostly < or = 10ms) replies, and timeouts !!! On average there are as much timeouts as replies, and the timeouts can sometimes happen in contiguous blocks of 3, 4, sometimes up to 7. They occur however scattered randomly in between the replies. The vast majority of the replies that I receive are <10ms.
What could be wrong here ?
