Network 10.40.32.0/22 can be subneted to:

10.40.32.0/24; 10.40.33.0/24; 10.40.34.0/24; 10.40.35.0/24.

Can someone explain me:
1, why the first and the last subnet cannot be used?
2, What happens if I use 10.40.32.22/24 or 10.40.35.22/24 as one of my IP address?

The first and last IP address cannot be used because the first IP address is the network address for your group of IP's and the last IP address is used for the broadcast IP for the group of IP's. If you use either of the 2 IPs your network will not function properly. hard to explain in little detail the severity of using the two IP's but it is highly recommended not to do so. Denpending on your network and equipment you could always PAT your IP address. Which in basic terms takes lets say your first usable IP address and assigns that IP address to all outgoing traffic that is destined for the internet and along with that IP address it assigns it a port number. that way when the next person goes to the internet it will get the same IP address but a different port number. This takes alot of knowledge to setup along with the right networking equipment. Hope this helped. All network segments need a network IP and a broadcast IP. Broadcast are used to send out information to everyone in the segment. kind of like a TV broadcast.
