Hello all, we are a small company with a Netware 6.5 server & currently backup to DAT tapes via SBCON. We recently purchased a Buffalo 250gb Linkstation which we use to backup a few linux servers via ftp as well as using DAT tapes. Anyway we would also like to do nightly backups of the Netware server onto the linkstation over the network as we only talking about 10gb of data.

What would be the best software solution to carry out this procedure?

i would use an rsync daemon

there are tids on this and a good cool solution as well

NetWare also has an FTP server you can use if you wish to keep things similar across all system. So you can backup your NetWare servers through FTP like you backup your Linux servers. Pretty easy to work with and it's managed through iManager.

Thanks terry712 for the great tip on rsync, we will implement that to backup to a secound Netware server and use that server just for short term disaster plan.

Thanks provogeek, yeah we will install the ftp server on the main netware server and back up onto the linkstation but would I be right in saying this will not take any of the permissions over?? Maybe I should only use this method for a easy single file restore.

Trustbar.nlm will dump all the permissions in a volume to an .xml file and then restore them on demand. Really handy.
