Netware through NAT?

Hello! I wonder if anyone could help.

We're setting up a private network (192.168.0.x) of novell clients connecting to their Netware 6 server (192.168.0.1). This server has 2 NIC's, one on the 192.168 network of course, and one on a main company network.

The thing is, the clients must connect to two netware servers - one is the server (192.168.0.1) and the other is a netware server on the main company network.

About to set up NAT, then suddenly thought "oh dear netware probably needs to multicast - eek NAT problem".

So the question is, will netware connect through a NAT?

Yes, Netware will work with NAT. Just need to go out to support.novell.com and you can get the information you need to properly configure this.

Are you sure, I've been asking around and it appears that the netware server on the public side would need to initiate connections to the client on the private side. This isn't possible with NAT. I'm shifting to using a firewalled subnet now so wish me luck! Thanks for the reply.

What is the IP address configuration on both sides? Is the main company network consisting of public or private IPs? If its public IP, then you need to do NAT. I beleive it is impossible to route from a private block to a public block and vice-versa, NAT must be used. If both sides are private, then you can enable routing on the netware box.

What kind of connection does your network need to make to the company netware server? If its file/print then map drives and printers accordingly and as long as the 2 servers are in the same tree, NDS will take care of it all.

Hehe, it's a bit of a crazy setup, the servers are in different trees. Thanks for the reply and sorry for satellite delay. Both sides are private IP's so i'm going with the subnet architecture. And isn't bordermanager fun? :-/ Thanx again.
