Hello All,

I have noticed lately that a Netware client's backup has been sitting in IDLE Wait status for long periods of time. I have also noticed that the server log around
3:00am that message below appears in the log. This backup starts at midnight and should take long to complete on our
network does anyone have any idea of what could be the possible causes for this?

TSM 5.3.4.0
Netware TSM client 5.3.4.0

Thanks for any help in advance!

Hi

How many files exist on the client system?

A client session in "IdleWait" state indicates that the TSM server is waiting for the client to perform some processing. A high value here may indicate that the "scan" of the client filesystem is taking too long.

As a starting point, are you able to gather any performance metrics from the client? Most helpful would probably be to see the same counters gathered over a quiet period (if you have any) a busy production period, and during the backup window.

You might also like to look at the "MEMORYEFFICIENT" client option.

HTH

Hello,

About 2 years ago we tried unsuccessfully to implement a Novell Tivoli client Cluster in a Netware environment. We are going to try to implement this again, Does anyone have a working Novell cluster and can offer any advice, Tips or dsm.opt file examples of this is implemented?
Or if there anyone knows where I can get some good documentation on how to configure the backup-arhive client in a Novell cluster environment outside of the documentation thats in the Novell client guide it
would be appreciated, From what I understand it would be on 6 cluster services.

Thanks for any help advice in advance!
