My apologies for what may seem like a daft question, but I normally use Windows! We recently acquired a small company running a Netware 4 server (I believe). They currently don't have any IT staff so I'm having to do this over the phone. I'm trying to help them upgrade their UPS system but for that I require the server to be shutdown. How do you do it from the Arcserve DOS-lookalike screen? I think it's CTRL + escape to come out of the Arcserve screens but I'm not sure from there.

Press Ctrl-Escape and select option 1 which should be the system console.

Once ensuring that everyone has logged out, type DOWN at the console and the server will proceed to shut down. Once this has completed, type EXIT and you will return to the MS-DOS command prompt. Power the server off as normal.

When you power the server back up, it should automatically reload. If it does not and just returns you to an MS-DOS screen, go into C:\SERVER (or C:\NWSERVER) and run SERVER.EXE to reload the server.

Thanks TheLad, that's exactly what I need!

I've just spoken with them now and they say in the rare event of them having to switch off, they normally press F1 "until they can go no further", then switch off -not sure if this is right or wrong? Anyway, your method sounds a bit more convincing! Thanks again.

for ups software you dont have to shutdown
this isnt windows - dont reboot

just unload the required nlm

normally aiocomx
or something like that
update and reload

I presume they need to unplug the server and plug into a new UPS system???

Actually, I was thinking of Vampire tapping into the power supply cable to save downtime! [tongue]
