Why is Netscape Messanger now bringing up that News page in a new Window when it was once just in the message area of Messanger? It's very annoying and I'd like to get it to stop somehow.

I've seen this on a different computer too and it just started the other day.

Very very annoying.

dakota81 if you find out what is causing this . . . . I too would like to know how to stop it . . . I was thinking something fishie was going on here .... their tech support is too expensive to run to every time something new crop's up :-( one would think they would ask us, before flicking the switch . . .

I have seen a rash of Netscape Mail users having problems with their client spawing an extra window that's suppose to be the Netscape Mail startup page. I'm not sure if an email script caused this, timed function in Netscape, or a web page with java script that has modified this option. Here is the way to disable it completely (no adds/news in Netscape mail)

edit prefs.js in c:\program files\netscape\users\ (user directory name)
(right click on this file, choose edit from the pull down menu)

add this line to the bottom of the file:

user_pref("mailnews.start_page.enabled", false) ;

I got this from a friend. It works.
