The main Domain controller on our network is not starting the netlogon service or Active Directory service when the server is restarted. The server is rarely restarted, but when it happens, I have to go into the services area and manually start both of these even though they're set to automatically start on boot up. It sure would be nice to hear any suggestions as to what is making this happen and possible fixes.

Thanks in advance!

What kind of errors are you seeing in the event logs?

System log, DS log, application log.

Sorry for the extremely long time to reply. I took your suggestion and had gone through the logs. I did find an error that eventually lead me to see that there was a missing dependancy for the netlogon service. I re-added it through the registry and it's all good again! I once again apologize for the late reply...Thanks for your help!

haha, late reply is a bit of a understatement.

Glad you worked it out!

just out of curiosity, what was the log entry and the service dependency?

Hi,

The event was Server. I don't recall the ID#, I've since cleared the log, but it led me to a Microsoft Q article that specified the dependencies for Netlogon and how to replace them in regedt32. From there, I checked Netlogon in services and saw the dependancy was not there and follwed the article's instructions!

Truthfully, I just didn't understand the trouble when this first happened. but I usually blunder across an answer eventually as in this case, but your suggestions pointed me in the right direction and I'm grateful!

Have a good one!
