NETBT traffic running slow

Hello all,

I have a NT4 SP6a server running Netbios over tcpip. If the client is within two hops traffic runs fine. If the client is farther the traffic is arriving at two packets per second. PING times to the server are less than 10ms per segment, with a total of 32ms. What the heck is wrong?
