Its abit long winded, but please bare with me.

We are running NT4.0 SP6a

We experienced the following error in event viewer when we
rebooted our PDC 10.0.0.1(impserver) and BDC 10.0.0.100
(darth) following the installation on SP6a and IE5.5 (to secure ourselves from Nimbus Worm).
Our Domain is called IMPFM.

Event ID 4320
Sourse NetBT
Type Error

Another machine has sent a name release message to this
machine probably because a duplicate name has been
detected on the TCP network. The IP address of the node
that sent the message is in the data (it was the address of the PDC and BDC). Use nbtstat -n in a
command window to see which name is in the Conflict state.
nbtstat -n on PDC:

NetBIOS Local Name Table on BDC, shows no conflicts

NetBIOS Local Name Table on PDC is:

IMPSERVER <00> UNIQUE Registered
IMPSERVER <20> UNIQUE Registered
IMPFM <00> GROUP Registered

WINS database has these entrys:
(there are no static mapping in our wins database by the
way)

10.0.0.100 INet~Services[1CH]
10.0.0.100 IMPFM[1CH]

I have looked at the MS site and found this URL
asp, which tells me that the Netbios suffix, <1C>
indicates domain name and also IIS group name.

We Do not have IIS currently installed, although we used to but it was removed long ago)

My manager suggests finding out more about the
INET~services to see where it came from, and see if we can
remove it. There is no mention of it inside Services in
the control Panel. It may have been installed when we
upgraded as this
was when we first got the error. (Our upgrade path was:
Internet Explorer 5.5, IE Service pack 2, NT Service Pack
6a (128bit encryption), Security Rollup Patch, and finally
the Windows Update Critical Patches)

What I dont understand is how the NETbeui names
INet~Services and IMPFM, conflict with one another.

But anyway... for now if anyone could give me any
information as to what INET~services is doing and where it
came from, or whether it is needed, and if not, how to
remove it, I would be very grateful.

Thanks in advance,

Julian K
