Hi,

In NT4 domain, I would like to use net send command to send a message to all the users. But I don't know how to use this command. I have tried net send ?, it returns a lot of pipes/switches. I still don't know how to use it. If I want to send out a message to all the users in the domain " Server A will be shut down in 10 minutes" Could you tell me exactly the command line syntax?

Thanks,

BMW

Net send /DOMAIN The server will self-destruct in 5 seconds!

I haven't lost my mind - I know it's backed up on tape somewhere ....

It will not work for them unless they have winpopup running.

From the MS Knowledge Base:

To use WinPopup, run the Windows 95 version of Winpopup.exe from the Windows folder.

If the Windows 95 version of WinPopup.exe is not installed, follow these steps to install it:

In Control Panel, double-click Add/Remove Programs.

On the Windows Setup tab, click Accessories, and then click Details.

Click the WinPopup check box to select it, and then click OK.

Click OK.

NOTE: WinPopup is available as an option to install only if you have installed a network client. Marc Creviere

To make it easy on yourself, you might want to intiate the Net Send command from Server Manager. In this way, you could easily just send the message to users attached to the server you are about to shut down. (It is not necessary to disrupt users that aren't effected by the outage.)

In any case, it looks like you need to update your client software first.
