Hi all.

I am tring to find out about reporting packages for .NET and SQL Server (but not SQL Server Reporting Services as we have tried ordering the CD weeks ago and still it hasn't shown up and we don't have time at present to wait for another possible 3-4 weeks). I have looked at Active Reports .NET and it looks ideal as we require the reporting tool be able to output Text, HTML/XML and PDF.

So, do any of you people know of any other solutions that are similar/close-to to Active Reports .NET?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Regards.

Stephen.

I was under the impression that Reporting Services is Crystal Reports (I was actually told this at a Microsoft conference recently), but it appears to be wrong. I'll take a look into that. Cheers.

Any other options out there?

9rays.net has one it's called report sharp shooter

Componentone has one

and here's one

I like the one form 9rays but that's my personal opinion.

The reporting service in VB.Net IS crystal, it ships with crystal runtime, has crystal report viewer controls and also has a slimmed down version of crystal reports designer.

However, i think only the professional version and above have the crystal report writer

My personal choice is crystal, but thats just because its what im used to.

Thanks for all of the help guys. I have one more question, which you may be able to answer sillysod. It looks like we may be going with Crystal, but I am still unsure about something. I have read somewhere that Crystal can output XML, however I can not find any information about this on the Crystal website. Does Crystal have this feature, and, if so, how much control would I have over the structure of the resulting output XML? For example, can I nest data elements within eachother etc?

Thank you.

Stephen.
