A client has a dell inspiron 3500. it got the sobigf virus. in order to clean the virus we had to remove the 98os. When I put on 2000 the video isn't right. I cannot find a driver that will work with this video card (neomagic magicgraph 256av. Any ideas? Thanks in advance

Tom
sorry if this is a double post

TK,
I have this same card in my Gateway Solo5150 laptop. See if you can find it on the Gateway site. I also believe NeoMagic has a site. Another place to look is Drivers.Com. Also, google: NeoMagic MagicGraph 256AV I recall finding sites that way when I first tried to set up the card.

If you have no luck, post your response here and I'll send you a copy of my driver.

Have you tried the Dell site ?

On the underside ofthe laptopyou will find the service tag number (usually 5 or 6 characters). Make a note of it and go to . You can sign up for free there. Just plug in the service tag number and it will take you to a page specifically for that system. On the download section you can download the corresponding driver.

The NeoMagic drivers can be very specific as the audio and video are combined. The wrong driver will result in system hangs at startup or, worse still, a high pitched squeal when the system boots. The only way to stop this is to power off then reboot in safe mode and uninstall the driver - It's a VERY unpleasant noise ;)

Hope this helps.
