Hi to all,

Having a situation with Neo Mail and downloading PDF files for acrobat as follows:
1)Client using Neo Mail (online login)
2)All email functions work fine
3)When we click on the file and choose "open" instead of "save" at the option pop up, one of the following errors comes up:
*file does not exist
*access denied, path not valid

4)Here's the kicker: when we choose "save" and download to the hard drive, it saves fine and we can open it.
5)Tested "open" option with a word document and all works fine.
6)Going further with this, I tested his email from another machine and the pdf file opens fine when choosing the "open" option.

Searched google to no avial. I'm wondering, since it *appears* to be a problem with his specific machine based on the facts, if there is a setting in internet options or somehow in acrobat. He uses Acrobat reader 5.0 AND has the professional version of Acrobat. Conflict maybe? That's the only difference between the machines, one uses the pro version, and the other doesn't.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Possibly a file association issue with the PDF extension. Compare the command line it is executing from the machine where it works vs. the machine where it doesn't work.

The command usually contains a "%1" at the end of the command line which basically directs windows to open the file you executed. If that "%1" is missing or not included in the DDE statement then you can get this kind of issue especially with long file names.

Hey joegz!

If you could please educate me on exactly where I would find "%1". I just went into his mail and opened it (from my machine, where it works) but could not find %1 anywhere. I'm sure I'm not looking for it in the correct place -- I guess the question is where do I find the command line. Thanks again in advance! FYI: I did go through acrobat properties and all looks fine there, again, if we save to HDD, it opens fine. Thanks!

I don't believe I saw what OS you are using so the steps may be a bit different.

Open Windows Explorer
TOOLS - FOLDER OPTIONS
File Types
hit P on your keyboard to move down to where file types that start with P show up.
Look for the file type PDF and hightlight it
Click Advanced
Highlight the action OPEN and then click EDIT
There you will see what command windows runs whenever you try to open a PDF file.

Hey Joe!

Tried that, all is fine there (W2K Pro). DDE is enabled. Now, check this out: instead of using NeoMail, I had set up an account in outlook express, downloaded the same messages, and everything "open"ed fine. The ONLY other thing I can come up with is that he has Acrobat 5.0 professional version (not the free download). Maybe that is conflicting with NEO Mail? Sort of at a loss. I've went through internet security settings (internet options) and the advanced tab under internet options. Any more ideas on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! I'll be writing to Acrobat to see what they can provide. One more thing...when you click "open" to download the file, Acrobat 5.0 DOES kick in, the user interface opens, but the "file is not found".
Thanks.............grez

STOP! I GOT IT! You won't believe what did it....I cleaned out his internet cookies....go figure?? (internet options .. "delete cookies") and all worked fine. Joe, if you or anyone could maybe explain what caused that, that would be great.

Joe, thanks again for all your help!!
