Needing to Connect with Net Passport Expert! 2

I have had a Microsoft .Net Passport for over four years.
It has worked flawlessly as intended, however after adding
the Windows Live Suite for Email,Messenger,and Live Photo
Gallery I have a problem or two to resolve.

(1) Cannot send Email from a webpage when I click on the
"Email to" link in many websites. It causes a popup of
the Outlook type sending screen to which I do not use.
WHEN I Attempt to use that by entering PASSPORT INFO
I get "Fatal Login Error > hr = 80041035, F= -47217355

(2) Email Link in the Live Photo Suite does as above as
well.

Should someone on this forum wish to reply regarding Passport issue I would be most grateful.NEED HELP?

I see this update being offered in Vista, you might like to try Windows Update to see if there is something like it for XP?

Have tried some of it, however will look at the sign in assistant update closely. It seems M.S. takes three steps forward and one back.

In any case, it sounds like it is trying to access Windows Live Hotmail (it must be set as a default), so you should be able to use your Hotmail address/password to access you Hotmail through your web browser.

Is a web page opening up behind the login window (if so, does the address start with

http://www.hotmail.com/)

If you click the Cancel button, does a blank web page open with the address starting with

http://loginnet.passport.com/

If your Hotmail address and password does not work, delete your Temporary Internet Files and Cookies, and try again. If it still does not work, go to

http://loginnet.passport.com

and sign in with your Hotmail address and password, after checking "save my e-mail address", then try again.

However, I imagine you would prefer Windows Live Mail to open when you are using a mailto link on a web page, or using the E-mail button in Windows Live Photo Gallery.

Firstly, Microsoft Outlook can silently steal some of the the e-mail defaults when you open it, so if you have Outlook installed, uncheck the option: "Make Outlook the default program for E-mail, Contacts, and Calendar" at Tools->Options...->Other [tab] in Outlook.

In XP, apart from making Windows Live Mail the default Mail and News handler at WLMail's Tools->options...->General [tab], also ensure it is set as the default E-mail and Newsgroup program through: Start->Control Panel->Internet Options->Programs [tab].

Then go to: Start->Set Program Access and Defaults->Custom, and check "Windows Live Mail" under "Choose a default e-mail program :

Have you got the latest version of Windows Live Mail installed (12.0.1606)? That missing option was a bug in earlier versions but I thought it was fixed in the latest version.

If the "Windows Live Mail" option is missing in your 'Set Program Access and Defaults', then you might also have two "Windows Live Mail" list items at: Start->Control Panel->Internet Options->Programs [tab]->E-mail:

If so, then one will actually be referring to Windows Live Hotmail (Windows Live Hotmail was previously called Windows Live Mail). So if that is the case, try selecting the other "Windows Live Mail" list item there. I think this bug was corrected in 12.0.1606 also.

If you do have WLMail 12.0.1606 installed and those "Windows Live Mail" list item bugs remain, then report back and I will give you a registry hack to correct them.

My Start Menu Shows > Windows Live Mail

Have had this since beta versions and the change over was auto updated I believe during the switch a Roo to renaming
WL HOTMAIL.
Been every where attempting to find Help, About for VERSION NUMBER but no luck as I have it configured
SO GUESSING but may not have updated version?????

NO RECORD IN >>>>>>>>SET PROGRAM ACCESS AND DEFAULTS(custom)

Ok, you may still have a beta version. To check the version number, you need to display the Menu bar (if it is not displayed) using Alt+M, M. Then Help->About Microsoft Windows Live Mail.

The earlier betas were not auto updated, but since Windows Live Mail 12.0.1365 (Beta 2), the update can be obtained through Microsoft Update.

The name change from Windows Live Mail Desktop to Windows Live Mail came with version 12.0.1184 (Beta 1) in May 2007. Beta 2 (12.0.1365) came in September 2007 through a unified installer for the Windows Live Suite, and the final release (12.0.1606) came in November 2007 through a unified installer for the Windows Live Suite, or through Microsoft Update if Beta 2 was installed.

YOU HAVE SOLVED MY ISSUE! YES, old version WLM DESKTOP was never updated. Just completed update download to the WLM
Version 12.0.1606 and found WLPhoto will now send to.
Plan to do further tests from other external websites today.
THAT SET WLM into Programs/ Default Access.

After searching for weeks and weeks I find Data from Microsoft of late is spread all over their blogs, spaces,
forums, user groups and some conflicting.

Where do you find the history you provided me?

Windows Live Mail has great newsgroup capabilities, so if you subscribe to that newsgroup in WLMail, you can get any help with WLMail, and become aware of bugs and other issues (there are a few).
