So we're getting rid of an old server that was still hosting DHCP, and the method that was originally recommended by a co-worker was to set lease time to 1 day, and just jump in and change it over the weekend.
There is an easier way.
The Windows 2000 resource kit has a tool called dhcpexim.exe.
If you've service packed your server and then installed the DHCP service afterwards, re-apply your service pack (learned this the hard way). The readme for dhcpexim has good step-by-step instructions to get the job done. After I got the service pack installed, it took me a grand total of 45 seconds to move dhcp from one server to the other, and it works great! It moved reservations, current leases, and scope options - no reconfiguring or address conflicts.
I give it two thumbs up. Marc Creviere
