NEED TO LIMIT NUMBER OF PEOPLE

Is there any way that I can limit the number of people who sign up for a specific item. I have 8 products to sell at a given time, and can not sell any more than those 8.

Is there a way that I can implement a script that will tell everyone that signs up after the 8th person that there are no products left?

Any and all help is MAJORLY appreciated.

DO you keep track of the sales? Can you just keep the assets_in_stock data in a database somewhere, and everytime someone orders a product, the assets_in_stock value is decreased? When the assets_in_stock value for a certain product reaches zero, then orders would be declined or delayed...

Your problem is REALLY generic.
