Currently doing about 350GB a night using Arcserve 6.61. Two drives in a TL891 writing concurrently to 35/70 DLTs. Pretty soon the backup window won't be long enough, but i think I'm going to run out of space on the tapes before that. I've been looking at SDLT, AIT and all the rest. Anyone got any ideas or recommendations? Ideally I’d like to replace it with something that’d do 1000 gig in about a ten hour window without the need for a monkey to change the tapes at four in the morning!

As ever, I appreciate your advice chaps.

Hi steve,

I've got 7 tl891r's at the moment, I have spent the last 6 months looking for where to go next. My suggestion would be speak to your supplier and get HP in for the day, following on from this book a day at their Lab. They will walk you through all the different types of media, devices. I'm currently looking at the SDLT's as it enables us to read the old dlt tapes which matters if you have 7 years of them.
The Library's being the MSL Range The good thing about these libs is that they are modular so that you can swap to different drives later in life, or move to a fibre connection if need be.. HP gave us assurances that the Life of the library will be 12 years +....

For what they are like up and running, I will be using forums and other companies stats to help me decide.

Whoops also forgot to say if you wish to stick with arcserve got to 9.. when i went from 6.61 to 2000 my backups performance rose by 30%.

Thanks for the info. Perhaps I should grab your old 891's out of the skip!

Could do, but i don't think we'll be moving to new hardware until around october. But i does raise a good question where can i sell old tape libraries???

I'll have at least a couple off you if you're upgrading in October.

Thinking of getting another TL891 and stacking! What leads did you use to stack?

I have a general question with the TL891's. It suggests using DLT IV with them. Does it matter which brand? Does these Compaq TL891's work with Fuji or Maxewell or Sony DLT IV's or does it only work with Compaq's DLT IV's?

rmv, we use Maxell or fuji, and don't often have problems, found sony to be poor, and compaq to be too expensive.
