Need help with reports

I am trying to write a report. My query brings out the right results. I am getting:

Material
Item #1

Material
Item #2

I desire to get:

Material
Item #1
Item #2

I tried to use group option but it is still not giving me the output i need, what am I missing.

Please help.

If you go into the report design and then "sorting and grouping" and set up a header for the Material field (or material id) and then put the material field in that section instead of the detail, this should give you the results you are looking for. To get to "sorting and grouping", just right click in the report design and you will see that as one of the options. If you need more help on this, let me know.

Like I said I have tried to do that but it is still not sortng that and grouping the ouput. I still get the out put
as

Material
Item #1

Material
Item #2

etc.

is my Query wrong or am I missing something in reporting.

What field are you using for grouping? Material or material id? Are there perhaps cases where the same material has different IDs?
