Need Help With Direct Connect!

I use this program called direct connect but i cant seem to be able to get activley connected.. My buddy that i get my internet from uses a wireless router and then goes thru another linux box.. Which then servers the net.. How would i get direct connect to work how would i open ports or what would i need to do... Please need some help.
