I'm new to Veritas and tape library systems. I just wanted to know how you can set the autoloader to perform a rollover to another blank tape once the tape backup up runs out of space. I currently have a differential backup performing 4 days a week and a full backup that runs once a week. The full backup is really large and requires about 3 tapes. It backs up to one tape and then asks for another tape, but I have 2 other blank tapes standing by. I don't know why it doesn't back up to the other tapes, but stops at the first tape and asks for another tape. I just need to have it roll over to the next blank tapes in line. Can someone help?

You have to check the properties of the media set.

Otherwise I would suggest partitioning the library and setup 4 slot for the FULl and the rest of the slots for the diff.

Point the jobs to the partitions.

You still have to make sure the tapes are not protected by a media set before you start running the jobs.

Thanks for the help, I created the partitions, but now the backupexec doesn't backup at all. I have added brand new tapes into the Powervault 132T and created it as a partition along with the original tapes in there. Since I have new tapes and have added them to a group called weekly, they should work along with the other tapes right? I don't understand why the backupexec doesn't choose these tapes for backup when they are blank, I had already formatted them and backupexec asks for tape to be inserted into it. Still need help, thanks.

Once you add them to a media set they take the properties of the media set. SO if you put blank tape in and drag them to media set weekly...and for example you have 5 days overwrite protection setup on the media set..they are overight protected for 5 days when you drag them in there. THey are usless for 5 days. Just place them in scratch media and it should work. Once the job runs they will be assigned to the weekly media set.
