Setup:
native win2000 domain on 2 DC's, demoted one, all fsmo roles dns and dhcp on the other.
did the /forestprep and /domainprep
ran win2k3 upgrade, seem fine.
then installed new win2k3 server and tried to run dcpromo.
dcpromo ran fine for a while, replicated first batch of objects from other DC and then started the second batch and fails with error: active directory mismatch.
i have experienced no problems with the AD otherwise and dcdiag and netdiag repports all well.
Now i want to use the ntdsutil on the DC in directory restore mode. I then need to login with the original local admin when no running AD but i dont seem to have the password documented !! ( this machine became a win2k DC, 2 years ago ) i just tried to change the password for the build in domain/enterprise admin but i cannot login when in directory restore mode.
how do i find this old local admin user ?
Does anyone know of a way to check the AD database in other ways ?
