We have a peer to peer 3 node network under W2000 and today someone logged on to our "SERVER" unit using his workstation password and user ID, now it turns out that the "SERVER" has lost all the Outlook info, the key codes for quickbooks and maybe more, this is what I have found so far, how can I restore the original situation. The "SERVER" machine, which was actually another workstation did not ise a password, it is my own notebook and I just had an user ID and no password, hit enter and got to the info, now I cannot use the previous user id because it doesn't take it. Please help me sove this, I am novice and need all the advice you can give.

First off your info is gone - sounds like you got nailed by a virus from the logged on work station.

If you have backups you are in good shape otherwise !!!

Second you need to understand security in a peer to peer network. You can use permissions to block users from accessing information and folders.

good luck in rebuilding the network

and remember the following

Get Virus protection on all PC and servers
Use the permissions and log on lock downs in Windows 2000
Set password unique
