I am an author who desires to sell my books online.
I want the desired readers to be able to sign up for membership then be able to download my book, for a fee, of course. And then maintain a databas of members, as i'm starting an online book club. ANY help would be appreciated. thanks

You'll need a "dynamic" website with e-commerce capability. Do you already take credit cards? Does your web host support active server pages (asp) or Cold Fusion? Do you want to process credit cards using an online payment processor? Are you looking to hire a web developer or are you looking for a low cost/no cost solution? John Hoarty

Miva Merchant might work; it has a customer sign-up option, and you can configure it to force a new customer to sign up before ordering.

There are hosts that will provide Web hosting and a Miva Merchant license for $30 - $50/month.

If you'd like more info about Miva, visit forum810 or
I'm sure there are many other fine products out there as well; Miva is the only one with which I am familiar.

There are also the options of a more complete hosting solution, like Yahoo Stores or Dell Host - but they tend to be a bit more expensive ($50 - $100+/month). Robert Bradley

thanks DEV, I visited Miva.com and was pretty sold oin the product...question...from what i undrestand you can purchas Miva or use it online with a Host provider...which is the best (least expensive)way....i would guess if you purchased the product you could configure or design the software/store the way you want? what if you can tell me would be the advantage of purchasing the product as opposed to using it thru a host.
Dev, you are really great. I really appreciate your help.
Bless you!

I don't really see any reason to outright buy it. Whether you buy the license direct from Miva (or a reseller), or you get the license as part of your hosting, you'll be able to customize the store to your heart's content - the nature of your license does not affect this.

My host (webaxxs.net) includes the Miva Merchant license in the $29.95 monthly e-commerce plan. I am sure there are other hosts that offer similar plans, such as C I Host.

Let me know if you have any further questions. Tek-Tips has also recently added a Miva Merchant forum: forum810 Robert Bradley

Thanks, Dev....
You have REALLY been a blessing....
Again, "thank you:
AJ

btw - does your web host have referral benefits, as i will tell them you referred me to their business.
