What I have is a internal network and a linux server with 2 nics one set to internal ip and the other to public ip from isp.

How do I route internal internet traffic out and mail coming in to a seperate server. ect...

Any help would be good.

Thanks

I totally disagree with the prewrap ideas on this
forum these days. Don't install some bundled firewall
kit that you don't understand and expect to be able
to know how to deal with problems when they arise.
Learn how to use iptables first then use a
firewall kit for convenience.
Just my .02.

AS I said in my post, I recommended the reading of the IPTables tutorial. This would give them an understanding of what they were doing.

I would not recommend implementing a firewall for the sake of a firewall without being able to understand what you've implemented.

There are excellant tutrials of firewall building and one must read them and understand what they are doing. Personally, I do not have a DMZ, nor would I want one ... too much trouble. However, My internet web site is hosted externally and I have complete conmtrol over it.

Now if you were deciding on the pros and cons of a Natted router (they all provide this) then a firewall would not make much sense.

I would also recommend going to and and use their tools to see how well your network is protected.

Now it's my $0.02

I thank all of you for your comments, and I do agree that installing th software is a bad idea, but thanks for the suggestion. I will read the releted material as soon as I can but I may want to pick your brains if I run into problems. Thanks again.
