hi, i am considering both of the following for power supplies... will both work well w/ amd? what is the difference between the two, other than one looks a lot better and has more specs listed than the other. :)

and

im building a new computer currently, and have never looked for a really nice power supply before. I would like to choose one of the two.

TIA

one more thing, my current 300 watt atx power supply, only has 4 power cables.... and a floppy power cable.

is it possible to get more than just 4 regular power cables?

I need more cable connectors, because im planning on putting a lot of hardware such as cd rw, cd rom, 2 hardrives, zip, and 3-4 case fans...
maybe even one of those peizo coolers (spelling?)
if not, is it possible to have an extra power supply in my case?

what are my options?

I would recommend the 350W power supply. I would think 300W would be enough even with all the drives you plan to put in but you can't have too much. Especially since you are getting an AMD which are known to use a lot of power. Remember, you get what you pay for. A cheap power supply can cause problems that are hard to identify, making troubleshooting a problem resulting from it difficult to impossible. I would steer clear of a $14 power supply. Spend the extra bucks and get one you know will be good.

Just my thoughts. Justin

k, thx man, i was going to get that one anyways, but just wanted to have it cleared w/ other people first. :)

btw, got any suggestions for my second post? (the one on this page)

My PS (power supply) came with a connector that split the outputs. It was basically a connector that plugged into any one of the PS outputs and turned it into two. I think your alright using this as long as you don't keep splitting them and reducing the current on a single branch. Anyway, if you're getting a 350W PS splitting them shouldn't be a problem. I don't think you can put two power supplies in one tower, although maybe you could in those giant full size towers. I really don't think it's necessary though. Even if it only comes with 4 branches you could split each one to get enough plugs. Remember case fans usually plug into the mobo so you won't have to worry about those using PS power outputs. You should be able to get the splitters from any local computer store that sells hardware.

Good luck. Justin

I would reccomend the 350 watt power supply because if you plan on putting everything that you said into that computer you are going to need the extra power. But the 300 watt power supply is good. But might as well go with the bigger one, but that is just my opinion.

It may be possible to put an extra PS in your case, although most are not designed for that. You "could" run the plug in either by slipping it between some cracks or cutting a whole in the back, but keep in mind only an AT PS will function without being plugged into a MB. I wouldn't really recomend this though, but it certainly is an interesting thought.
