After upgrading to XP SP2 my computer has had problems when booting up. First it wouldnt go past BIOS then i finally got it to.. how? I dont know i just kept it off for 2 days and retried turning it on and it booted up. It would do this here and there but now the machine turns on but the monitor says "Signal our of range" when plugged right into my integrated video.. but when plugged into my GFX card it doesnt do anything it just stays black.

Thinking it was my HD i took it out and stuck it in my brothers pc and well i can access everything on my first partition.. but now its saying my second partition (my back up partition) is not formated?? Along with this i also have it plugged into my monitor (to make sure it wasnt a monitor problem)

Does my problem sound like a hardware problem? Software problem? Im decent with computers but im truely baffled :( Oh i also switched out my power supply into another persons PC i was fixing to make sure my power supply wasnt going out.. and it worked fine.

Any help would be MUCHO appreciated!! Thanks for reading.

Thanks,
Tony

Ouch! now i just rechecked my hard drive... (that came from my pc) and now it isnt even showing 2 partitions.. and it is saying its not formatted :( -CRY!

Is this just because it was a master in my other pc and settings are being confused? (i hope) or did i just loose all my data?

Hola,

well it sounds like you might be going towards a HardDrive crash there soon... but...

with the original HD in place, go into BIOS load Default Values, double check your settings in Standard CMOS setup (Drive should either show up or it should be set to AUTO), then Save and EXIT...

Grab the Windoze CD, insert it in the CD/ROM and boot up system... in XP, boot into Recovery Console, wait for the PROMPT and type FixMBR... Reboot without the CD inplace... and report back here if it worked or not...

If it works don't fix it! If it doesn't use a sledgehammer...

Ok well i was messing around and i figured out that the pc is randomily regonizing the drive and not.. i messed with the pins and unplugging and plugging in the IDE and power cable and messing in CMOS.. now it seems to be detecting it all the time.. and when i logged in a checked my 2nd partition.. it said it wasnt formated... well i went into explorer and instead of clickign the drive i clicked the + to show directories.. and then they all showed up THANK GOD.. and i could use the files in them.. still find it wierd though it said it wasnt formated?

... so i guess now its just my original problem with my PC not the HD :/

Thanks BigBadBen if it keeps giving me problems ill try that out.

Hola, once again,

post your specs of the machine (PC) all that matters, like GFX-CARD, RAM, CPU, Motherboard make, etc... this will give us something to work on...

How old is the system? have you replaced the CMOS battery yet? did anything other happen before you placed SP2 on the PC, like a powerouttage?
