Dates of problem:
- cisco 1700 router
- win 2003 server
- cables connect: 10/100 eth. to switch, console to PC (blue cable with adapter DB 25)
Problems:
- no comunication with router (using Telnet or Hyperterminal).
Please help me, if is possible step by step. Thank you.

When the PC is connected to the console port of the router, you need to set Hyperterminal to use these settings:

Speed 9600 bits per second

8 databits

0 parity bits

1 stop bit

No Flow Control

If any garbage characters appear in the hyperterminal session, it means that you have not set the hyperterminal properties properly, or that the config-register of the router is set to a non-standard value for which the console connection speed is higher than 9600 bps.

if you are confident the speed and Hyperterminal settings are correct, you may have a bad console cable. Try a different one.

Is another way to do this task? (I don't have another cable).
What is the default IP of the router and subnet mask? Is possible to "see" the router using other method? Thank you for yours reply.

I made a mistake... Is 1760 cisco router. Sorry!

ok..so you are using db25...
...most the time we use db9..db9 is most the time com1...maybe db25 uses the com3 port on your computer.....check that..
...doesnt matter what kind of router...they all use the baud settings that KiscoKid mentioned above..
..good luck telneting...unless you have the password...
...if you do...we can figure the ip address pretty easy...

I have another problem: I can't configure my 1760 cisco router using SDM because I need to upgrade IOS image. On cisco's site need high level privilege logon. Solutions?
Thank you again.

....so i guess you have fixed the 1st problem..
..now you need a cisco ios..
...i guess purchasing a cisco smartnet contract is out of the question..
...you will then,, have to do some networking to get that ios you need.. and dont tell cisco! ;-)
