I want my favorite text edotor to open a txt file when I click on it. The editor opens but it opens to a new file.
I am happy I got that far - at first the OPEN WITH... box always came up - I can not figure out how to get the editor to open the text file. Thanks

Go to Windows Explorer/View/FolderOptions/Filetypes and highlight the 1st on in the list and then scroll down, noticing you're changing the info in the dialog box as you do...hit the T key and it'll jump in the list to T...the 1st association...now scroll again and find .txt and simplest way to do it is hit the remove button.
Close out of that and then highlight the first .txt file you see in Windows Explorer and right click and choose Open With...and check the box to Always use and then point it to where you have installed "your favorite text editor" and the file will open and you'll have added the app.

I have done just that many times but everytime I click on a text file I get the Open With... box. When I open the file types it shows the editor I want to use for txt files but they do not open with a mouse click. ??????

The reinstall worked :) Thanks a lot gargouille. Computers sure a mystical
