Hello,

I have just purchased a new 3 ghz p.c Motherboard is ASUS p4p800-e. My question is this. For some reason when I start the p.c it sometimes hangs. What I mean by this is it takes about 5 minutes after I start my p.c for the computer to show the motherboard information. So I have to wait for 5 minutes for my computer to start booting up. My monitor shows a yellow light and then after 5 it turns to green. This only happens on a cold boot and it does not happen all the time but the majority. Also, sometimes if the computer is running and then I turn it off and quickly back on, it will not do this. Does any of this have to do with the fact that I hooked up the monitor using a DVI connection cable. Is there some setting in the bios that needs to be changed. Can someone tell me what is going on. I'm not sure if you need any other info. I checked the ASUS site and nothing. I guess I will need to bring the p.c back to the dealer. Have 1 gz memory, 250 sata drive. Thanks for everyone's help.

This almost sounds as if theres a bad jumper setting somewhere. Id check all jumpers on devices and ensure there in place right.

I doubt it's because of using a DVI cable. I would have to assume the video card and monitor both have a DVI connector otherwise how could you use a DVI cable to connect them? Is it an LCD monitor?

If it's new and under warranty you might void the warranty if you open the case up. I'd take it back and let the dealer hassle with it. I've never seen a PC take five minutes before displaying the CMOS settings. Personally, I would refuse to accept a computer that does that.

Very good point about the warranty kevin, glad you picked up on that as I did not think about it lol. Glad to have people catch my mistakes lol.

Lets call it an oversight. I'm also appreciative when others correct any oversights I make. [wink]

It could be one of many things but not the DVI connector thats for sure.
As it is stalling before POST it's not driver or OS related but more likely hardware failure ie addon card, faulty rom etc etc
As others have pointed out, what the fault is shouldn't be your concern, take the unit back for warranty repair ASAP.

Thanks again guys,
Your help is much appreciated. I was thinking of bringing back my p.c but wanted to check what others thought first. I always hate lugging my p.c back to the shop, but I guess I have to. I will let you guys know what happens. Thanks for your help.
