I am running a custom app on a server we have here that allows clients to view our database and also send mail. I'm trying to get the mail feature to work. Our Exchange server is separate from the server running the app. Exchange server is NT4.0 running exchange 5.5 and the app server is server2000. In exchange I've set it up so that it accepts relaying only from the app server's ip address and from my workstation's ip address. This however isn't working. What IP address should I be allowing from?

If the routing restrictions are set to automatically route clients with the IP addresses that you specify, and you are sure that the machine trying to send is one of the ip addresses, it should be routing them. Check the error logs to see if any errors came up and make sure that the app machine is set up properly.

I'm not getting anything in the event viewer - but do I need to turn any specific logging on. As far as I know, the machines are set up ok. I don't know - should I be telling exchange to allow routing from the lan address of the exchange server?

I'd tell it to allow routing from any internal server/computer unless you can configure it from authentication. Use a subnet mask to set up a range.

Buztwet,

I have a similar problem in that I am trying to allow my webserver (Windows Server 2003) to send emails via my mailserver (Exchange 5.5 on Win Nt).

Can you tell me how you allow a certain PC permission to relay emails??
