New to the Metaframe world. Have not been able to get in touch with a live person at Citrix yet, and I am not sure if I will recieve an honest answer.

According to the requirements, Metaframe can not be on the same server with a program running MS SQL such as Geat Plains Dynamic Accounting (Dynamics, in this situation would be running for LAN use, and connected to Metaframe).

Is this an absolute, or can Metaframe run on a 3.0 Ghz, 15k rpm scsi raid server along with Dynamics?. DoI really need a separtate machine for Metaframe?

Basically my client needs Metaframe for 10 remote users who will need remote connections for sales data entry and report lookups, intermitantly, with little data input; possibly 2 of the 10 might actually do some heavy work in Dynamics from home. Main office has a total of 12 machines, with no major input from employees, Metaframe client will not be used at the main office.

Thanks

The impact of a database server on the users of Terminal Services (and MetaFrame) - and vice versa - are so utterly unpredicatable that this combination is always advised against. The overheads in terms of RAM, CPU and disk usage are just too great. The actual number of users is irrelevant - it's down to how they use the server, which you won't truly know until they start using it. There are many rules of thumb, but the only true acid test is your (clients) environment. Since this is for a client, you would be best advising that a separate server must be used, thus toeing the supported line.

In short, it is best to have a machine dedicated to either of these services - you would not use a server running either a database or terminal services as a Domain Controller or a web server.

Hope this helps

CitrixEngineer is correct. Let me add that I used to work extensively with Great Plains databases and they are not very efficient with memory, etc. (In other words-like most things Microsoft owns-it is a memory hog)

It would be a big mistake to not dedicate a machine to Cirix.
