I'm not really having any problems sending or receiving from Exchange 2007, but I wanted some clarification on the naming and to make sure we are set up correctly with our ISP.

Our local domain is corp.<DomainName>.com
Our server name is EX2007.corp.DomainName.com
Our external MX record which is hosted by our ISP is DomainName.com

First question: From the management console on the receive and send connectors, there is a setting for:
Specify the FQDN this connector will provide in response to HELO and EHLO records.
Should this setting be EX2007.DomainName.com or EX2007.corp.DomainName.com

Second question: Are there any settings that you change in the DNS settings of the TCP/IP properties from the Network Settings in Windows, in particluar the "DNS Suffix for this connection" field?

Third: Running a get_ExchangeCertificate cmdlet, the server name simply comes up as EX2007. Shouldn't it come up as the FQDN?

Any input greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

1) Whatever your MX record says is what you put in here. If they don't match you can have problems sending mail. Craigslist is a great way to test. Send a message to someone. If it isn't configured properly, they will spit it back to you.
2) No
3) There needs to be a thumb print entry. Welcome to the world of Exchange 2007

What you need to do.

Upload the certificate to the IIS website hosting OWA. View the cert. In the details of the cert, you will find the thumbprint. You need this to tell Exchange what cert to use. This will explain it all.

It is what it is!!
