Before I used Premiere, my much cheaper video editing software (MS Movie Maker, Roxio etc.) would "Auto Clip" creating clips every time the video cut in the camera. It would do this during capture. In reality, it does not create individual AVI's but virtual clips I suppose. Is there anyway in Premiere or with a plug-in that I can achieve the same result. Free is always nice too.

Thanks

Premiere Pro includes this if you upgrade.

Pinnacle DV500/Pro One have a video effect to chop up captured AVIs into camera clip in a Premiere storyboard.

Pinnacle DV Tools has such a feature, based on a tape scan first.

Other capture boards may have other ways of doing something similar.

But the neatest way on the market today for people using FireWire capture is Scenalyzer Live from It's a snip at around $33 with a try-before-buy download. It does scene detection either on date/time or optical (so it works on analogue sources coming in via FireWire), and has lots of other neat features to assist in capturing.
