This is a lot easier to do using the Login Script and the Netware Variables to capture the OS version. You might even be able to write this out to a file on the server so you can read it later. Just look up Login Variables in the Knowledge Base on the support site.
There are a lot of other Workstation details you can capture such as the MAC Address, ETC. If I remember correctly you can also set the variables into the workstation environment, from there you should be able to retrive then with a Set command.
I don't know if this is what you want to do with the variables but these are just a few options.
