Hi

I have 3 Netware 4.11 servers all objects of the same tree.
My primary (single reference) server crashed, losing my sys
volume. After reinstalling netware, I tried to do a restore from an old backup.nds (STIFFY) but this did not work. I deleted the first server from the tree through logging into the second server (NDSMGR)

Eventually I decided to rebuild the tree (what a mission) fortunately I only have one container.

Was there an easier way to do this? Could I use the replicas on the other servers to rebuild the tree? How do one go about restoring NDS to a single server, 1 of 3 .

I am NOT running SBACKUP. And what is SERVDATA.NDS?

Thanking You
Tony

Hi Tony,

Let us say that the server you lost held your master replica and that at least one of the other servers had a R/W replica. All you had to do was promote a R/W replica on another server to Master. Remove the failed server and it's components from the tree (This includes all objects: Volumes, license containers, NLSLSP objects, etc.... Reinstall NetWare on the failed server and Insert it back into the tree. Once this is complete, you would restore your data.

P.S. You would also need to reconfigure your time sources.
